But I've been doing training too!
Whatever stage of this career you are at you'll be doing some description of CPD (whether the DSA have proscribed it or not), so think carefully about where you want to go with your career and plan how best to spend your personal development budget.
If you're wondering what a "personal development budget" is when it's at home - well it's the amount of money you allocate to improve your skills and hopefully your profit margins!
The better the instructor, the more likely you are to get phone calls asking "when can you fit me in?" rather than "how much are your lessons?". You can also start to specialise and target a specific area with your training - this is what we've been doing over the last couple of months.
We've been working on the Fleet Driver Training side of the business, and from the start of December we will also be offering SAFED Training for Van Drivers - a course designed specifically to reduce fuel consumption and driver risk on the road for van drivers.
Alongside the commercial and van driver training for on-road purposes we will be offering full LANTRA 4x4 Training Courses for all 4x4 users (commercial vans and people carrying station wagons alike).

Auto Lessons
The auto lessons are proving a real hit, as is the car (Honda Jazz CVT), which is just far too easy to drive!
The usual comment after trying it is something along the lines of "why doesn't everyone do this?!" when they find out how much simpler it is to drive than a manual!
If you find yourself worrying about gear choices and clutch control when you'd much rather be thinking about the surrounding traffic and road users - try auto lessons - you can concentrate on what is going on outside the car rather than worrying about what is happening in the footwell!
You can have a look at our Automatic Driving Lessons and Automatic Intensive Driving Course sites.

Driving Instructor Training Course
I've finally got the course online. I can't provide a free trainer to go along with it, but it should help any PDI through the process.
Hopefully it'll also help any trainees to compare what they are being taught with an online resource, and may well be useful to look through for those working out who to train with.
Well, have a look at the Driving Instructor Training Course.
Otherwise, just go through the main site www.beyonddriving.co.uk or go to the Driving Instructor Training section.
Oh, and the whole site has changed, as has www.beyond4x4.co.uk!

DSA Test and Fee changes
The DSA are changing the fee structure for Driving Instructors and fees for driving licences are changing.
It also looks like people will no longer be able to sign a declaration if they have lost the paper counterpart to their licence.
See: Driving Instructor News at Beyond Driving.

Driving Instructor Training Course.
I've finally finished the driving instructor training manual for the course. It's got a little larger, and more comprehensive than before.
Section 1: Preparation - this section includes information on the legal responsibilities of the driving instructor, and how we introduce and inform our customers of these responsibilities.
Section 2: Instructional techniques - this section works on the instructor's key attributes and skills, including the levels of instruction and core competencies.
Section 3: Exam preparation - this section covers all of the PSTs.
Section 4: Running the business - this section includes invaluable information for instructors to go out and start earning money - something often lacking from traditional courses.
Or look at the ADI training course on the main site - www.beyonddriving.co.uk
And hopefully it should help instructors to come through the course with all of the skills they need, allowing them to work flexibly, and deal with as many situations as possible - useful skills for the part 3 exam and beyond!
Have a look at the whole syllabus at Driving Instructor Training Lancashire, Cumbria. Have a look at the course outline page.

Driving Standards Agency Fleet Registered Driver Trainer
Well after doing Nigel's course, my orange badge appeared today!

Driving Instructor CPD
This is just a quick post to say thanks to Nigel from Excelsior Training, and a couple of links for his training site.
The Fleet Instructor Diploma Course he runs is great - fully DSA approved, and all you need to do once you complete it is send off the old passport photos and registration fee to get your orange badge!
I've also got to thank him for all of his ORDIT Preparation Advice. I hope to be registered before the end of the year.
If you're thinking of Driving Instructor Training in Staffordshire, give him a bell. One of the few instructor trainers I trust to give me the right advice at the right time. Loads of experience (loads of qualifications!), and good advice.

Become a Driving Instructor.
There are lots of new careers out there that promise you the earth in return for a 'small' investment in training, and one of the most popular of these is becoming a driving instructor.
The main reason for this is that so many people already drive, and feel they have a headstart on it!
There is a lot more to it, hopefully this blog will give you a little more information before you jump in feet first.
First up, join the driving instructor forums, there's loads of them, and some can be a bit intimidating, but the best 2 would be Driver Training Today, and the ADI forum. Both of these have a large group of regular contributors, who give good honest advice about the job, and how best to train. Some research done here could save you thousands.
Now I'm not writing this blog for the fun of it, I am a trainer myself, and I run Beyond Driving, which has loads of information on Driving Instructor Training, Driving Instructor Books, along with News for instructors, links, and information about the industry itself.
So before you fall for the £30k plus a fully maintained car for working whenever you want - do a little research - the job can be hugely rewarding, but go in with your eyes open.
